A child’s first economic lesson: a dime is worth more than a nickel. It seems counterintuitive. But the nickel is bigger, Dad! Yes, but size doesn’t always correlate with value, as we short people are quick to note. The second lesson: Dimes must be put to use to make more dimes. You can’t put them in a bag, wait 60 years, and hope they’ll breed quarters.
