Brass cents
I’ve received several questions from people asking about cents that appear to be made of brass. I used to think it was due to school chemistry experiments where the copper coating is removed to reveal the zinc and that is still a possible explanation. However, I have come across another explanation.
Ken Potter wrote to the US Mint back in 1985 and included three cents that appeared to be made of brass. He received a response that explained a condition in which the coins could be brass plated instead of copper plated, so some of you may have them.
He is now selling them so it’s possible that he would be willing to purchase them if you have any.
