Be careful with appraisals
I once took a coin into a dealer to get his assessment of its value and he gave me some advice that could have saved the couple in this article $54,000.
The advice was to make sure you have some way of identifying your coins, or if not, don’t let the coins leave your sight.
In this case, a couple took their collection to an appraiser and he switched coins with much less expensive ones.
One thing that helped the Barnes, when they went to police, was they had pictures and documentation of all the coins they owned.
And they recommend the same to everyone who plans on getting anything appraised.
