The Lincoln Cent was the first cent to bear the motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST"
In 1909 Victor D. Brenner's initials were very prominently displayed on the reverse between the ends of the two wheat stalks, but the public found it inappropriate to have his initials displayed so prominently, so they were promptly removed. 1909 Lincoln Cents that have the initials on the reverse are worth considerably more than a non-VDB Lincoln Cent. |
