rare roman coin foundA man with a metal detector unearthed a coin that bears the head of a mystery emperor who ruled Britain for a matter of days. There only exists one other coin like it that was found in France, but until now it was dismissed as a fake. Too bad there isn't a way to see what that coin has seen. Imagine the history behind it. » Permanent link | News Reader comments

I see them selling for, oh, 30.00-40.00 dollars. Your friend can get at least 7.00+ dollars for pure silver value. » by Mitchell on January 28, 2005 @ 08:00 PM #My son has found a coin which we think is Roman. We cannot find anything similar on the net and hope you can help us to identify it and value it! On the reverse side is a head of a man facing to the right. The letters which I can make out are HADRIANVSAVCDMT ( there are other letters before and after which I cannot decipher. There are also 3 letters stamped on the front and back which are WRL (these look newer and are they from a museum?) » by Carol Wrigg on July 27, 2005 @ 08:26 AM #Hi , i have came across a coin dating from 1500 on one side it reads vicit. leo. de. tribv. ivda with an symbol of a big crown followed on either side with two smaller crowns and the letters FM in the middle there are also on this side only three tidy letters reading WRL. on the other side it reads fran . et . mad . g . r . r. francoscotorsf. . on this side it has some sort of coat of arms .
