The US Mint will be releasing a new nickel in 2004. The obverse will remain the same, but two new reverses will be used. In the spring they'll celebrate the Louisiana Purchase and in the fall they will change it to a keelboat, used for transporting members of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Reader comments
Hey -- can't say as I know much about coins and collecting and all, but I read about your changes to the coin collecting site on your personal blog, visited the coin collecting site, and thought it was too bad there weren't any comments on your first two entries, so I figured I'd remedy that myself and be the first to comment. Just liking news and information generally, I liked hearing that there will be some new nickel designs in 2004. See you this weekend. » by David on January 05, 2004 @ 11:36 PM #Thanks for the comment - they have been sparse recently, but I don't mind. Some people like to read and not necessarily comment, especially if they don't have anything to add. I too am looking forward to the new nickel design. I'm curious when the Lincoln cent will be redesigned. The obverse is the longest running design out of all US coins in circulation. The reverse was changed in 1959, but the obverse has remained unchanged since its inception in 1909. » by dan on January 05, 2004 @ 11:50 PM #I just found another article on CNN about the new nickels. » by dan on January 20, 2004 @ 03:42 PM #Any one know when in 2004 the new nickles are coming? » by Mark on January 24, 2004 @ 10:59 PM #I wasn't able to find the exact date anywhere, but the first design will be released in the spring of 2004. » by dan on January 25, 2004 @ 08:04 PM #I wouldnt expect to have 2 new nickles, but now I think that I will stick to these. ( for a while at least ) » by Matthew larson on April 01, 2004 @ 05:10 PM #I have a 2004 new nickle but the image on the back with the hand shaking is a mirrored image. Is this rare? » by Darla on February 23, 2005 @ 06:24 AM #Just saw a 2004 Lewis and Clark! it's amazing... I juist love the idea of the commemoratives! » by annette on April 09, 2005 @ 06:57 PM #I just saw the new nickels. Its great to see the buffalo back again. But I have to verify. It is a male buffalo, right? » by red baron on April 19, 2005 @ 02:14 PM #I don't know if it's a male for sure, but that was my understanding. » by dan on April 19, 2005 @ 03:32 PM # |
